On September 3, 2009, the city of Seoul and the Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) won the right to host the "Korea MICE Expo" from 2010 to 2012, overcoming stiff competition from other cities across the nation. The expo is the nation's sole MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) industry exhibition organized by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).

 

In their proposal to revitalize and globalize the event, Seoul and the STO outlined "The joint growth of MICE cities in Korea" driven by the city’s international brand value. The selection committee’s enthusiastic backing of Seoul was boosted by a promise of unprecedented administrative and financial support to transform the expo into one of the global MICE industry’s main events as soon as possible.

 

In 2000, the KTO started holding the exposition, then called the "Korea Convention Fair", as part of its efforts to stimulate MICE demand in Korea and abroad. Held in a different city each year, the event that was later renamed the Korea Mice Expo is now celebrating its 10th anniversary.
