New Yorkers Enamored with Seoul Fashion and Design
2010-01-13
New Yorkers Enamored with Seoul Fashion and Design Seoul has been listed as one of the cities to visit in 2010 in the article, “The 31 Places to Go in 2010,” according to The New York Times, which is the largest metropolitan newspaper in the U.S. The article described Seoul as a city that's filled with “glammed-up cafes and restaurants, immaculate art galleries and monumental fashion palaces like the sprawling outpost of Milan’s 10 Corso Como and the widely noted Ann Demeulemeester store…”
10 Corso Como is a renowned attraction in Italy with its second flagship store located in Cheongdam-dong, which opened in March 2008 in Seoul. The fashion powerhouse is located next to the Hyundai Galleria Department Store and surrounded by art galleries. The first floor houses an array of brand name accessories, cosmeti cs and clothing. There is also a bookshop where exhibitions and events are regularly hosted, and a café to eat and relax in.
Founder and owner of 10 Corso Como, Carla Sozzani chose Seoul over other fashion capitals such as New York, Paris and Tokyo because she was “moved by Korea’s palaces and art galleries, as well as its deep-rooted history and culture.” Ann Demeulemeester originates from Belgium and the store is named after the designer herself, who is known for her gothic-inspired designer clothing. The NYT article describes the store as “an avant-garde Chia Pet covered in vegetation.”
Located in Sinsa-dong and in close proximity to Dosan Park, the shop is covered in plants and the stairway is lined with moss. The ground floor is the fashion store itself and also has a basement shop and a restaurant. Both shops are located in the upscale Gangnam district, where it’s going through a rapid transformation from residential to commercial.
