Seoul wins bid for 2013 event

SEOUL More than 3,000 nuclear scientists and medical imaging professionals from 50 countries are set to visit Seoul in 2013 for the IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium and Medical Imaging Conference (IEEE).

It will be the first time this conference has been held outside the US and Europe, with Seoul beating several other Asian cities to host the event.

The conference is supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Organization (STO). The Seoul Convention Bureau (SCB), a division of STO, worked closely with the local Korean IEEE chapter.

Kim Hee Joong, the IEEE NPSS chairman of the Seoul branch, said: “The conference historically has been predominantly held in either Europe or the United States, so we are very excited to be the first to host this event in Asia.”

The win continues Seoul’s impressive run of bid wins, including the 2011 OECD Ministerial Meeting (2,000 participants), the 2013 International Federation of Oto-Rhino-Laryngological Societies (IFOS) Congress (5,000) and the 2014 International Mathematical Union (IMU) Congress (5,000).
