Key Tourism Goals Outlined at High-Profile 'Visit Seoul Year 2010'Event
In conjunction with the city's metropolitan government, the Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) held the special "Visit Seoul Year 2010"event with the goal of boosting the city's prominence as international tourism destination, as well as increasing the number of overseas visitors in a year that is regarded as the most important to date for the industry.
 Held on February 17 at the Wil Restaurant located in the Gana Art Center, some 39 foreign diplomats and distinguished guests were in attendance. Guests were selected by the number of foreign visitors to Korea originating from their respective countries, and included the ambassadors (and their wives) from Japan, China, the United Kingdom, Australia, Russia, Canada and Germany as well as the director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Charm, CEO of the Korean Tourism Organization as well as Mr. And Mrs. Jeong Gyeong-won, head of the Seoul Design Headquarters, also attended the event.
In his welcoming address, President Samuel Koo of the STO proposed the three major areas of "Design, Green Tourism and Korean Cuisine" as the key themes for further boosting Seoul's rich tourism offerings in 2010, and wished the best of luck for the success of this important year for the nation's tourism industry.
The promotional presentation for major events to be held in Seoul this year, including the "World Design Capital" event, the Seoul Grand Sale and the Seoul Lantern Festival was delivered by Director of Conventions Maureen O'Crowley.
The event was marked by an atmosphere of conviviality and cooperation, and the various ambassadors and distinguished guests expressed their high expectations for the successful development of the city's tourism industry. President Lee Charm of the Korean Tourism Organization also offered his thanks and support for every effort being made to further cement the city's global reputation as a vibrant and exciting tourist destination.
