MPI Korean Chapter Networkshop Pins Down Successful Convention Planning
The first MPI Korean Chapter event for the year, the Meetings Professionals International (MPI) Korean Chapter Networkshop was successfully held on March 26 at the newly-established Seoul Partners House facility. Hosted in a joint effort by CEO Samuel Koo of the Seoul Tourism Organization and the Korean Convention Association, the event was a successful meeting of minds for the local convention industry scene.
Well-known musician and TV celebrity Yeon Namgung, who recently hosted the successful 'Korea Night' at the Davos forum in January, was invited to deliver a lecture in which he entertainingly shared his experiences and expertise on conventions, emphasizing the importance of sustainability in convention-planning. "A convention is not just something that needs to be planned, but rather something that needs to be designed," he said to those present. Yeon went on to outline the three key components of a successful convention, they being tradition, aesthetics and high technology.
Also discussed were key upcoming MPI events and projects, such as the implementation of the first MPI education program in Korea, as well as the attraction of conventions. The dinner allowed for the frank and comfortable exchanging of information.
Seoul Partners House, originally set up as a public hall for the mayor, was turned into an affordable business and convention center for small and medium businesses unable to meet the rental costs of the city's established convention centers and hotels in the wake of the global recession. The event provided an opportunity to introduce the facility to convention experts.
