SCB, Volunteers Play Key Role at International Women's Invention Expo
Park Jun-Hyeon, Junior Assistant Manager, Korea Women Inventors Association
The 2010 Korea International Women's Invention Exposition was the first event of its kind that I ever attended, and I must admit I had some concerns. There was a need for a large number of volunteers to organize and guide both the foreign and Korean visitors and address their requirements and concerns. In addition, with the event taking place during examination week for most Korean colleges, it was not easy to secure a sufficient number of volunteers with foreign language skills. While preparing for the event, I was able to learn about the Seoul Convention Bureau through a coworker, and with their valuable help I was able to run the exposition successfully.
The exposition, organized by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and sponsored by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), is the only event of its kind that provides a venue for women inventors from the around the world to meet and promote their inventions. The event is managed annually by our Women Inventors Association, and representatives from over 30 countries participated in this year's event.
Volunteers were tasked with providing interpretation for overseas visitors and assisting the business office, and were often called upon to transfer various materials or help transport visiting delegations from their hotels to the venue. I would like to thank all the volunteers who performed their various duties cheerfully and with dedication. I would especially like to thank team leaders Jung Jun and Mun Sun-sik for their hard work.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to the Seoul Convention Bureau for all their help. The pool of dedicated and highly qualified volunteers was integral to the success of the event. I hope to receive their assistance again for future events. Finally, I am glad I was able to become acquainted with such a great organization, and I hope to extend our friendship for years to come.
