Meeting Professionals International (MPI) President and CEO Bruce MacMillan Visits Seoul

Plans Discussed for Expansion of MPI Korea and Cooperation in 2012 Korea MICE Expo

The future of the MPI Korea Chapter and Seoul’s education program for meetings professionals topped the agenda during a recent visit to Seoul by President and CEO of MPI, Bruce MacMillan. Mr. MacMillan met with new representatives of MPI Korea, the Seoul Tourism Organization (STO), and the Korea MICE Association (KMA). Together, the organizations discussed plans for further development of the Korea MPI Chapter and possible cooperation during the 2012 Korea MICE Expo

The October 20 visit included a lunch with STO president Mr. Hong Heegon and a working-level meeting with STO representatives. Meetings were also held with the current MPI Korean chapter board of directors, including new chairman of the KMA, Mr. Esmond Oh, at the Coex Convention & Exhibition center.

Mr. MacMillan stressed the importance of new talks between the three organizations, with the ongoing success of joint STO-KMA-MPI training sessions for college students seeking to enter the meetings industry. Since 2008, MPI Korea has been running officially-sanctioned education programs for local college students and June 2010 saw the introduction of the Global Certification in Meetings and Business Events II (GCMBE II), MPI’s first convention planning education program in Korea.

The MPI president’s meetings with the STO and KMA also included discussions regarding the way in which the organization could support next year’s Korea MICE Expo and Seoul MICE Forum as an educational and business partner. An MPI educational session and a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) Boot Camp concurrently held with the KME were some of many ideas discussed.

MPI is an international convention organization headquartered in Dallas, United States, with over 24,000 members from 80 countries around the world. The organization's Korea office, established in November 2008, is Asia's first MPI Chapter.
