Seoul Business Events Unaffected by Coex Mall Redevelopment

Coex, Seoul’s largest convention center, is currently renovating its famed shopping mall, but it will be business as usual for the convention center itself. Coex is assuring meeting planners that all convention and exhibition facilities will remain unaffected by the construction - scheduled for completion in December 2014 – as well as many other dining, accommodation, and entertainment facilities in the Coex area.

The redevelopment is part of the center’s efforts to stay on top of an ever-growing demand for its services as an international events venue and tourist attraction. Coex offers four exhibition halls and 49 meeting rooms, and the mall (billed as the largest underground mall in Asia) serves as an all-in-one destination for delegates after their meeting. When completed, the revamped Coex Mall will offer upgraded versions of the many facilities that have long made it a popular destination, including hundreds of domestic and global stores, cafes and eateries.

Various dining facilities will still be available for attendees in and around Coex, including hotels and restaurants in the surrounding Gangnam district, while shoppers can enjoy the nearby Hyundai Department Store. Part of a much larger multi-complex, the Coex Mall is encompassed by three on-site convention hotels (Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas, InterContinental Seoul COEX, and Oakwood Premier COEX Center Seoul), a city airport terminal, Coex Artium musical theater, aquarium, the Seven Luck Casino, and a duty-free shopping tower

The Coex convention center has been the setting for many of Seoul’s most high-profile events, which in past years have included the Seoul G-20 Summit 2010, and 2012 Nuclear Security Summit. Two major events held at Coex this year were the 13th International Congress of Toxicology in May and the 20th IFOS World Congress earlier in June. The Korea MICE Expo, the nation’s largest annual business events trade show, was held there during the past week.
