Yeouido’s “SEOULDAL” Marks First Anniversary with 50,000 Riders, Captivating Global Tourists

The round moon-shaped attraction floating over Yeouido has quickly established itself as one of Seoul’s signature nighttime landmarks, celebrating its first anniversary since opening. The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Organization (CEO and President, Ki Yon Kil) announced on the 22nd that “SEOULDAL,” which began operations in August last year, has welcomed 50,000 riders as of this August. Among them, 17,000 (31.3%) were international visitors.

Over the past year, “SEOULDAL” operated on 235 days, with an average of 228 passengers per day and more than 5,400 safe flights without incident.

Since the introduction of a global Online Travel Agency (OTA) booking system in April, the share of foreign passengers has surged to a monthly average of 40%, underscoring its growing appeal to international tourists. The most popular periods for rides were during the cooler months of September and October, and in the early evening around 6 p.m. To enhance visitor convenience, operations have also expanded during peak seasons, and new benefits such as discounts for multi-child families have been introduced.

Ki Yon Kil, CEO and President of the Seoul Tourism Organization, said, “SEOULDAL has become one of Seoul’s most popular tourism attractions over the past year thanks to the interest and love of both citizens and international visitors. Building on this first year of experience, we will continue to provide safe and enjoyable experiences for all.”

Goo Jong Won, General Director of Tourism and Sports Bureau at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, added, “One out of every three riders of SEOULDAL is a foreign visitor, showing that it has become a beloved nighttime tourism landmark not only for Seoul citizens but also for travelers from around the world. We will continue to develop attractive tourism content so that Seoul can grow as a must-visit global city that visitors want to return to.”
