“The Seoul Tourism Organization is making tourism in Seoul more barrier-free by offering free airport pick-up and travel assistive device rental services for wheelchair users. Such tourism accessibility assistance is expected to make Seoul open to a more universal range of tourists and give the city’s MICE industry a more competitive advantage.”

Amid the skyrocketing number of visitors coming to Seoul post-pandemic, STO has been pushing ahead with its Seoul Universal Tourism Project to make Seoul a tourist city where all people, including those with particular needs, can enjoy easy-access travel. This year, STO is offering a wide range of barrier-free services to promote local tourism in the city.

In particular, the organization is also offering free airport pick-up and assistive device rental services to enable easier accommodation and travelling in Seoul for wheelchair users. The services will make Seoul a more inclusive city that welcomes visitors of all ages and abilities, enabling a greater competitive advantage in the global MICE industry.

Those in need of the airport pick-up service can use Seoul Danurim Mini Van, a free service provided to visitors coming to Seoul via the Incheon International Airport. Since the vans are special-purpose vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts, one does not have to get off the wheelchair to get into the van. The vehicles have two wheelchair seats and seven regular seats. With up to two wheelchair users, a minivan can fit up to nine people.

Seoul Danurim Accessible Tourism Center requires Korean people to book the service on its website at least seven days prior to the use of service, while non-Koreans should make a reservation at least 14 days in advance on the center’s English website. The vans operate from 9 am to 6 pm (KST) for airport pick-up and drop-off at the desired destination.

Another important quality of a genuine MICE hub is stress-free accommodation. STO gives information, including information on accessibility facilities and photos of over 70 hotels in Seoul in both Korean and English on the official Seoul Danurim Accessible Tourism Center website (www.seouldanurim.net/en/index).

The Seoul Danurim Accessible Tourism Center allows visitors to rent assistive devices, such as patient lifts, shower chairs, and other accommodation essentials for those with mobility impairment free of charge. Thanks to the center’s free pick-up and delivery service, those who use the service can easily collect and return the rented item at a desired location in Seoul, including the hotel where they may be staying. The rental period ranges from a minimum of three days to a maximum of 15 days.
