·  “MICE companies desperately in need of more workers…in-person interview opportunities provided on spot”

On July 1st, the Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) held “Mentoring Concert and Job Pitching Day” for MICE Global Experts providing them with unusual opportunities to meet with MICE professionals in person. The Mentoring Concert and Job Pitching Day were prepared with the aim of enhancing the understanding of the MICE industry for those aspiring to become MICE professionals and of resolving the industry’s labor supply and demand imbalance.

The MICE Global Experts are consisted of supporters, focused on operating jobs, and a talent bank, a group of job seekers aspiring to work in the MICE field. They have been selected and are in training to become MICE professionals through STO’s various programs including academic and practical courses and competitions.

The Mentoring Concert was attended by junior mentors from PCOs, PEOs, DMCs, CVBs, and convention centers to answer whatever questions that MICE Global Experts might have regarding working in the MICE industry. They were given chances to directly ask questions to the mentors and receive answers as well as information on pursuing employment opportunities in the MICE industry. The mentors gave an overview of MICE jobs, broadening and deepening the students’ understanding of the MICE industry. A total of 146 participating trainees spoke highly of the event, saying "It was great to ask questions and get answers from the industry incumbents, as it is a rare opportunity to consult them in person.”

“A link that connects MICE employers and job seekers, leading to employment through on-site interviews”

Job Pitching Day is a newly launched event held for the first time this year to provide the members of the Seoul MICE Alliance (SMA) with opportunities to fill their labor demand. This was an immediate response to the request made in the recent SMA Leaders Round Table among the members that “the bureau can help introduce programs such as a job fair to support members to hire more people and to boost job seekers’ perception of the MICE industry to address labor shortage, the industry’s most urgent issue at the moment.”

MICE companies that participated in the event had a time to pitch their companies to the students. The event was held in a hybrid format and livestreamed to those participated online. The students who brought their resumes had on-site interviews with the companies they were interested in. Job Pitching Day went beyond a mere show to real opportunities for the participants, both companies and job seekers, to hire a talent or land a job. In fact, several job seekers welcomed opportunities to work in the field through the event.

As such, STO has been connecting MICE employers to job seekers by fostering a talent bank to alleviate the burden of hiring in the MICE field. SMA members that hire people through this process will be awarded grants to finance salaries for new hires. This year, STO also plans to conduct meeting technology training and Virtual Seoul (online MICE platform) contest to prepare MICE professionals.
