The 2019 international Broadcast Worldwide (BCWW) video market was held at Coex, Seoul from August 20th to 23rd. Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), more than 200 companies from more than 30 countries participated in the event, which drew 7,875 visitors. Now celebrating its 19th year, BCWW is the largest broadcast video contents market in Asia. The event was held under the theme of ‘Content, Connecting the World’, and included the ‘BCWW Market’, featuring an exhibition of domestic and international broadcasting and video companies introducing new works to key buyers.

Conferences were also held under the banner of ‘BCWW Formats’, where industry experts discussed global format trends and business expansion, and ‘BCWW Newcon’, focusing on future trends in media broadcasting and video content, and platforms.Customized programs were also provided for practical businesses such as international co-production presentations, drama production presentations, broadcasting writers forums, and international format confirmation announcements. These included content screenings, lectures from content creators, and other activities.KOCCA head Kim Jung-ok was asked how difficult it was to host and attract BCWW to Seoul, saying “For the case of Japan and Hong Kong, where many BCWW core buyers are located, there were many concerns of whether the recent political situations would affect the buyer attendance. Fortunately, many buyers did attend without any problems.

In addition, Seoul City’s funding was a great help in offsetting venue rental costs. The Welcome Kit souvenirs, MICE transportation cards for overseas buyers, and the hanbok-wearing experience supported by Seoul were all pleasantly welcomed by the participants.”When asked about the overall satisfaction of overseas participants, she said, “They were very satisfied, and look forward to next year’s BCWW event, also set to be held in Seoul.”
